The Friends' Mission

The mission of the Friends is to encourage community support for the Fletcher Free Library, raise money for its needs, promote cultural and literacy programs, and sponsor educational and enrichment programs for all ages.

Supporting the Fletcher Free Library

The Friends of the Fletcher Free Library is the 501c3 volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the mission and work of the Library.

The Friends acts as the fiscal agent for funds received for the use of the Fletcher Free Library, whether from donations, grants, bequests, or fundraising activities. Fundraising activities include the annual appeal, special events, and the sale of donated books. The Friends Board annually allocates resources to the Library for expenditure at the discretion of the Fletcher Free’s Director, Mary Danko. This procedure helps the library plan programming, professional development, and special projects. The relationship between the City of Burlington and the Friends is defined in a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Friends raises money through the sale of books at occasional sales, through online channels (eBay and our online store), and at a small store in the library across from the Main Desk ("The Stall").

The Friends Board welcomes the public at its monthly meetings, often held at the library on Tuesday evenings. Contact the Friends at fletcherfriends@gmail.com to confirm meeting dates and times if you are interested in attending.

The Friends offer a wide variety of volunteering opportunities, such as helping out at book sales, event planning, pricing and assessing donations, and managing a book-selling venue. Contact us if you are interested!
